Docu-installation 2023
The artwork is no more than a moment of the artistic process, frozen in time.
An artist studio has more than artworks to offer. Artistic practice can be understood as an ecosystem in which ideas, concepts and materials are explored. An artist studies these elements in different potential relationships, progressing through collections of possible future art pieces until setting on the final constellation of elements that becomes known as the produced artwork.
When looking at an artwork, one can relive the processes that an artist has gone through in creation. It is perhaps one of the greatest experiences of an artwork, to have a journey through the production process, including the emotional and technical parts.
In ‘Documentation of a Possible Artwork’, however, the process itself is exhibited as the finalised work.
Ideas and concepts that reflect the state of my home country Iran: full of ideas and future plans, lying dormant in the minds and hearts of its people, bristling with the urge to be realised in a new society, welcoming and embracing their full potential.
It was an honour to be invited by 004 Collective to participate in the group show organised by the members for GO WEST.
I also presented this installation in Bermuda open 2023 in The Grey Space In The Middle.
There are clear references to the production process of my other works in this docu-installation.
nowadays that an under the skin revolution with the well known message of Woman Life Freedom is taking place among my people,
“I left Iran, but Iran didn’t leave me.” A contemporary saying that is repeatedly said by Iranians in diaspora.
This recent progressive movement has its own admired heroes such as Toomaj Salehi, a imprisoned rapper, to which belongs the sculpture on the table. One of his most famous quotes is “the actual death is hopelessness”.
“Echoes of the Past”, another installation also about Iran consisting of a large number of ceramic pieces is part of in this work while in progress.
